Mastering Complexity in a High-End Residential Project
VVA was brought into a high-end, ground up residential project on Cape Cod during the midst of construction, with the goal of taking control of an escalating budget and delayed timeline.
The client originally engaged us when the project budget had more than doubled from the initial ~$3 million estimate, and projections were still climbing. The project faced challenges due to added scope that was not being managed effectively.
In high-end residential, it is common to see an intricate, beautifully designed project significantly outpace initial financial expectations, as was the case with this home’s “jewel box” vision. Without strong controls in place, the project was at risk of further delays and ballooning costs.
VVA stepped in with one clear mandate: bring order to the budget and schedule while maintaining the project’s high standards. By leveraging the expertise of our Luxury Homes team, we implemented rigorous cost controls and scheduling practices.
Our team worked closely with the architect to align design aspirations with budgetary realities, ensuring the vision remained intact without compromising on financial prudence. Simultaneously, we provided the general contractor with the guidance and structure necessary to navigate the complexities of custom residential construction.
Throughout the project, we acted as a bridge between stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and accountability for both the design and construction teams. Despite the challenges, the client moved into their stunning new home well ahead of the previously predicted timeline. The final scope included a main residence, a guest house, a screened-in porch, solar panels, EV connections, rooftop gardens, extensive landscaping with a vegetable garden, and breathtaking water views.
