The Diabetes Research Institute is an incredible organization, one VVA is proud to support in their ongoing mission to find a cure for Diabetes in a safe and efficient manner through scientific collaboration and cure-focused research. This is no easy feat, and one that requires the support of others, and VVA has participated as a sponsor in many Empire Balls to support the DRIF in making this goal a reality.

In order to fully understand and appreciate the honor of receiving the 2024 Peter L. DiCapua Humanitarian Award, Lorenzo spoke with two friends whose children were affected by diabetes. One explained that the money going to this Institute is put to good use and allows their team to make real advancements to find a cure. The other, as Lorenzo put it, explained the kind of connections the DRIF created for patients; “from connecting them with doctors and hospitals that they would not have known about or could not gain access to, to providing the support and comfort in knowing they were not at it alone. A support structure.”

Another VVA partner, Dana Panzarino, introduced Lorenzo before he received the Humanitarian award. Dana spoke of Lorenzo’s professionalism and drive within the industry and VVA. This, she explained, was the public Lorenzo, but the “the private Lorenzo has a heart of gold” and “genuinely treats all VVA staffers like family, literally opening his home and heart to any and all.” The VVA team knows Lorenzo as an incredible, generous, and knowledgeable leader, and is thrilled that the DRIF recognizes him for these qualities.

In his own words, Lorenzo thanked the DRIF for honoring him with the award, and asks that those in attendance of the Empire Ball “reach a little deeper knowing how much this organization means to people and how efficiently it runs and gets results.  We are all asked to participate in many charitable events. They are all good causes, but I am hoping that this one will capture your hearts”.
